Sunland-Tujunga Octopus Project

Abby Diamond told us “I started the group in February 2017. I was fascinated and inspired when I read an article about how little crochet octopus help premature babies. I asked my friend Sue to teach me how to crochet. Well, we decided if she could teach one person, she could teach many, so we created a Facebook event and posted it on our local group pages. We had an incredible response with 24 people at our first meeting. The recipients are the parents and babies in the NICU at Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena, and Glendale Adventist in Glendale. We’re really just getting started. So far, I’ve donated 30 octopi. And there’s about 20 completed waiting to be sterilized and delivered. It’s incredibly heartwarming to help them in the difficult and uncertain time of premature birth, when it should be the most joyous.”
