Crafting Comfort

Ann Randall says, “Crafting Comfort was started in 2007 to provide volunteer sewing opportunities in the Austin, Texas area. About 8-12 volunteers meet every Tuesday from 1-3pm at a local sewing studio. All tools and materials are provided for the volunteers by the charity. We make camisoles for breast cancer surgery patients, medical play dolls for hospital staff and caseworkers to give to children in the hospital, drawstring bags and clothing for Eloise House and Safe Place and neck pillows and heart pillows for chemo patients and fabric grocery bags for an elder care food program. We only use Fairfield brand poly-fil stuffing for our pillow projects – it’s simply the best. We donate over 1,000 handcrafted items each year. This includes over 150 camisoles, 350 drawstring bags, 150 medical play dolls, 100 pillows, 100 children’s pajama pants and dresses and 200 grocery bags. Our volunteers understand how a comfortable pillow or a handcrafted toy can provide security in stressful situations. Handcrafts made with love and concern for the recipient provide their own healing power.”
