"WE CARE"Sewers from SJN Church

“WE CARE” is a group of 7 – 8 elderly ladies (70+) who meet to socialize and share their talents of sewing, knitting, and crocheting. They have been making breast cancer heart shaped comfort pillows since Sept. 2017.

The patients at their local cancer hospital are given a pillow after having breast surgery. The pillows are made with an inner stuffed pillow and an outer flannel cover that can be removed for laundering. There is an over the shoulder strap to keep the pillow in place in bed, in a chair, in the car, or while walking. On every pillow they attach a “WE CARE” label and a breast cancer themed ribbon or heart.

Judith DeVorchik shared “At the heart of it all, we sew and stuff because WE CARE. Four of the ladies have had breast cancer and were given pillows after surgery, and they felt it was time to give back and give comfort and hope to other women.”
