The patriotic fireworks wall decor is perfect for your July 4th Independence Day celebration, or any patriotic holiday. My design is an abstract take on an American flag. Many holidays in other cultures and countries have fireworks, so feel free to modify the colors and design to fit your decor needs. OlyFun cuts like paper, doesn’t fray, comes in many colors and metallics, and is low temp hot glue friendly. This a beginner craft, because it only uses hot glue, and there is no sewing. This project does require some very basic geometric pattern making. If you have older kids, they might enjoy putting this fireworks project together. OlyFun is suitable for short term outdoor exposure. If you leave it outside too long, the hot glue might melt, and the metallic OlyFun will separate. Keep this up for your party. Then, take it down and store it somewhere cool, so you can reuse it.

What you need to make this project

Materials: OlyFun in Cherry Pop; OlyFun in Sky Blue; OlyFun in Metallic Silver; OlyFun in Metallic Red

Supplies: Large construction paper sheets; Pen; Clear quilting ruler; Scissors; Straight pins; Black permanent marker; AdTech Dual Temperature Cordless Glue Gun; AdTech General Purpose Multi Temp. Hot Melt Glue Sticks; Silicone craft mat; White upholstery nails; Hammer; (OPTIONAL) Red and Blue acrylic paint; (OPTIONAL) Small paint brush

Instructions

Step One

Cut construction paper into three different sized squares, 10″, 8″ and 3″. Fold 1 square in half diagonally. Fold it in half twice more, like a snowflake. This divides the paper into 8ths. Cut through all the top layers, to make a V. Repeat this folding and cutting step for each square.

Step Two

When you open the stars, they should look similar to mine. On the back of the silver OlyFun, with a permanent marker, trace the small star 7 times, and the large star once. On the back of the red OlyFun, with a permanent marker, trace the medium star once. Cut out all the stars and set aside.

Step Three

On construction paper, using the ruler and pen, draw a rectangle 17″ x 12″. Cut out the rectangle. Fold it in half lengthwise. Curve the bottom. Pin the curved rectangle on two layers of Cherry Pop OlyFun. Cut out the shape. Set aside.

Step Four

On the large construction paper, create a triangle 12″ tall by 16.5″ wide. Cut out the triangle. Fold the triangle in half lengthwise, and curve the bottom. Pin the triangle to two layers of Sky Blue OlyFun. Cut out the shape. Set aside.

Step Five

Plug the hot glue gun, and switch to low temp. Set on a silicone craft mat. Apply hot glue to the back of a small silver star, diagonal from point to point. Quickly center and press the small star onto the middle of the red star. Working in small sections, hot glue the red star to the big silver star. Set aside.

Step Six

Hot glue the two rectangles together, around the edges. Cut six 1″ by 15″ strips of Silver OlyFun. Position the silver strips diagonally on the red rectangle. Working one strip at a time and in small sections, hot glue down the middle of each strip, pressing the strip quickly onto the rectangle. Repeat for each strip, spacing them about 3″ apart. Cut off the excess strip, flush with the rectangle edges.

Step Seven

Hot glue the two triangles together, around the edges. Hot glue the remaining 6 silver stars to the triangle. Hot glue the triangle and rectangle together.

Step Eight

On the back of the Silver OlyFun, draw a squiggle, 1″ wide by about 11″ long from top to bottom, not the squiggle length. This is the fuse. Cut out the fuse. Apply hot glue to the back. Press the squiggle onto a different back section of Silver OlyFun. Cut along the squiggle edge. Hot glue the fuse top to the back edge of the red rectangle.
