Denim Pin Cushion

Categories: Gifts, Pillow, Patriotic

Upcycling clothes makes me happy. Giving something old and unwanted new life is one way I like to craft green. Denim is and awesome material to use in crafting. There is something about the color combination of indigo, red and white that just feels right to me. I think they were meant to go together. Plus, with denim the more worn it is, the better it feels and the more character it has.

To make the denim pin cushions I cut open the legs and saved the seams – I will use them in another project. I placed the denim in the die cut machine and cut out 2 pieces of the round die shape. Two for the for the sides. Run the top piece of denim thought the machine with the star die. Sew the red fabric to the back side facing up. Pin the pieces right sides together. After sewing all but one side together to form the circle, I stuffed in the Poly-fil until nice and plump. Then I stitched the seam closed. My sewing machine allows me to do tight seams with the change of a foot. If your machine does not you allow this – hand sew the seam closed with a whip stitch or a straight stitch. Use a thimble as denim can be tough to push a needle through. For the pincushion with the fabric in the center, I die cut the shape first, then pinned and sewed it in place.
