You don’t need a whole costume to nail Halloween! One great accessory and a little hot glue can carry the night. If you’re staring at the calendar wondering how October got so far along, this one’s for you. Every project below can be made in an evening (most in under an hour) using a few basics from your craft stash and some favorite Fairfield World products. Check out these last minute DIY Halloween costume accessories that are perfect for everyone in the family!
1. Clouds!

Super fluffy and fun, a cloud is the perfect accessory for many costume ideas. Become a rainy (or sunny!) day, a unicorn in the clouds, or a rainbow! Use Poly-Fil Fiberfill to create big or small fluffy clouds, depending on your project needs. Poly-Fil is easy to hot glue onto a base like a hat or an umbrella. My favorite tip to share is to finish the cloud with hairspray to keep everything in place and to minimize fly aways! This cute rain cloud costume project shows how easy it is to quickly create a cloud costume accessory.
2. Cotton Candy

The next project in our list of last minute DIY Halloween costume accessories is a sweet one! Create one faux cotton candy to add to a clown costume, or make several to create a quick vendor costume. Add a tutu and wand to be a Sugar Fairy, or dress up like a character in the classic Candy Land game. This tutorial shows you how to make cotton candy using Poly-Fil® and a few other easy to find items.
3. Superhero Mask

Adults and kids alike admire superheroes, and it’s a timeless costume idea. Masks are perfect because they are easy to put on and take off (as opposed to being in face paint all day!) All you need is some colorful felt or Oly-Fun Fabric, fabric glue, and elastic to make the mask of your choice. There are lots of free patterns and templates available online, like these cute DIY superhero masks at Life Sew Savory.
4. Capes

Every superhero needs a cape, and it’s one of those very quick last minute costume accessories that you can whip up in minutes. Somewhat Simple shares a genius tip for how to turn large t-shirts into quick no sew capes. Use some scrap fabric, felt, or Oly-Fun Fabric to glue a logo or initial onto the cape and you’re done!
5. Fairy or Bat Wings

All you need is some cardboard to quickly make wings as a last minute costume accessory. To speed things up, buy colorful poster board so you don’t even have to paint anything! You can cover the wings with glitter or fabric details, or cut an opening and fill it with contact paper like Our Days Outside did. For more templates and project ideas, check out these DIY fairy costume wings and this bat wings tutorial.
6. Beards

Wizards, historical figures, and more all need a beard to complete the look! There are several different ways to make a beard quickly, such as cutting a shape from felt. To make a long flowing beard, consider using yarn, like The Tip Toe Fairy did. For shorter, fuller beards, grab some Poly-Fil Fiber Fill like I did to make this president’s day beard.
7. Animal Ear Headbands

An easy way to quickly create a costume is by putting on a fun headband with ears! Become a black cat, a tiger, an elephant, or any other favorite animal by adding ears to a headband. This is a quick costume accessory that’s easy to make, and there are loads of tutorials with free templates to help guide you. Use felt or Oly-Fun fabric to make headbands like this DIY cat ears project. If you prefer to use fabric, especially something with a furry or soft texture, opt for a sturdy stabilizer like Structure Fusible Interfacing to help the ears stand up, like I did with these DIY Stitch Ears.
8. Robes for Wizards and Witches

A simple black robe is the perfect base to create lots of different costumes: a graduate, a wizard, a witch, or even a judge! Use black Oly-Fun Fabric to quickly create a simple black robe. Add a wand, hat, or gavel to quickly transform this basic DIY robe into the costume of your choice. This easy to follow tutorial created by Pieces by Polly has both a sewn and no sew option.
