Sabrina-Rose Benedict, the maker behind Sab’s Stuffies, has built a warm and welcoming corner of the crafting world where chunky yarn, finger knitting, and irresistibly squishy stuffed animals come together. She creates beginner-friendly patterns and tutorials that have inspired countless makers to pick up yarn for the first time — and keep coming back for more. We connected with Sabrina-Rose to learn more about her creative journey, her process, and what keeps her motivated to show up every day.

Getting to Know You
How did you get started on your creative journey?
In 2019, I went to the store and picked out some chunky blanket yarn as part of a birthday gift from my husband. I made my first ever project: a chunky knit blanket! It turned out terrible. It had giant holes and was completely uneven, but I loved it. It was something I had accomplished, and I was proud of it despite it being a bit of a mess.
I showed it to my sister and she asked me to make one for her, which I was excited to do! I also ended up making one for a friend for her bridal shower, and there was a lot of fun and really positive feedback from everyone there. I think that’s what really encouraged me to keep making blankets, and not long after that I opened my Etsy shop.

Inspiration & Creativity
Where do you find inspiration for your projects?
I find a lot of inspiration in the things around me, like my family and my home. I’m also inspired by the seasons. Many of the patterns I choose to make follow along with the seasons and different holidays.
Are there any themes, colors, or materials you find yourself drawn to again and again?
I especially love working with bright yarn. It’s actually a little ironic because I tend to gravitate toward neutrals when it comes to my clothes and my home. But the bright yarn itself has been inspiring me in my day-to-day life, and I’ve even noticed that I’m starting to buy brighter items because of it!

The Making Process
What materials or tools do you love using most?
For finger knitting, chunky blanket yarn, my hands, Poly-Fil, and my scissors are my main tools! That’s actually something I really love about my craft. Other than choosing between different colors and brands of yarn, there aren’t many decisions to make when it comes to materials. I’ve always used the Fairfield Original Poly-Fil brand, and that will probably never change!
How long does a typical project take you to complete?
Every project is so different. Some of my mini stuffies only take 10 minutes or less, while some of my bigger projects can easily take 1–2 hours. But that’s only once the pattern is officially complete. Pattern designing is a whole other story when it comes to the time it takes to get things just right.
What’s one project that challenged you the most, and how did you overcome it?
One of my most challenging projects was actually the pattern I just finished — the Chubby Bunny. I almost gave up on it over and over again because the cheeks were so hard to get right. The way I overcame it was by just continuing to push through. I had a very specific vision, and I knew it was going to be great once I figured it out. I just needed to keep working through it until it came together.

Behind the Brand
How would you describe your creative style or brand aesthetic?
My creative style and brand aesthetic are all about things that are cute, cuddly, and chunky! I’m a big fan of mini stuffies, and I would say that I “specialize” in beginner-friendly projects.
What’s the most rewarding part of sharing your work with others?
The most rewarding part of sharing my work with others is the pure joy it brings people. Whether it’s someone purchasing a stuffie, simply seeing a finished one and smiling, or someone learning for the first time through my tutorials and feeling proud of themselves for accomplishing something new — getting to see people feel proud, start their own businesses, or even go on to create their own patterns is truly the best and most rewarding part for me.
How do you balance the creative side of making with the business side?
The business side can be hard at times because I absolutely love creating all day long, but there are other things that need to get done for the business. It can be difficult to set the creating aside, but I know that taking care of the business side is important and ultimately helps me continue sharing my patterns with others.

Fun & Personal Touches
What’s one thing people might be surprised to learn about you?
One surprising thing about me is that I still deal with self-doubt and a lack of confidence. It’s easy to see the positives on social media because it really is a highlight reel. I do try to share the hard parts occasionally, but I still struggle just like anyone else. A big part of my job is recording video tutorials for my patterns and being in front of the camera. I often repeat myself over and over because I can’t seem to say the right thing the first ten times. Doing that every day can sometimes feel really defeating. It can be hard to show up day after day, but I do it anyway because I truly love what I do and I love that I get to share it with others.
If you could collaborate with any other artist or brand, who would it be?
I would love to collaborate with any yarn brands whose products I use!

Looking Ahead
What upcoming projects or goals are you excited about?
I’d love to see Sab’s Stuffies continue to grow in teaching and expanding the finger knitting community. I’d also love to explore ways to do that beyond just making patterns, tutorials, and kits.
How do you see your creative journey evolving in the next few years?
One goal I have is to write another book! And a long-term dream of mine would be to open a storefront one day.
