Step One

Make the pillow front

Each stripe is 6 rows of the stitch pattern, every 6 rows the color is changed, alternating between black and white. Pillow front should measure 18″ square. Begin with a white row.

Begin with white yarn and N hook

ch 42

Row 1: sk 1st ch, [(1 sc, 1 dc) in next ch, sk next ch] 20 times, sc in last ch

Row 2-6: ch 1 turn, [(1 sc, 1 dc) in first stitch, sk next stitch] 20 times, sc in last stitch

Change to black yarn

Row 7-12: ch 1 turn, [(1 sc, 1 dc) in first stitch, sk next stitch] 20 times, sc in last stitch

Change to white yarn

Row 13-18: ch 1 turn, [(1 sc, 1 dc) in first stitch, sk next stitch] 20 times, sc in last stitch

Change to black yarn

Row 19-24: ch 1 turn, [(1 sc, 1 dc) in first stitch, sk next stitch] 20 times, sc in last stitch

Change to white yarn

Row 25-30: ch 1 turn, [(1 sc, 1 dc) in first stitch, sk next stitch] 20 times, sc in last stitch

Change to black yarn

Row 31-36: ch 1 turn, [(1 sc, 1 dc) in first stitch, sk next stitch] 20 times, sc in last stitch

Finish off, set aside

Step Two

Make the pillow back

The pillow back is made using  the same stitch as the pillow front but it is all black rather than striped black and white.

Make with black yarn and N hook

ch 42

Row 1: sk 1st ch, [(1 sc, 1 dc) in next ch, sk next ch] 20 times, sc in last ch

Row 2-36: ch 1 turn, [(1 sc, 1 dc) in first stitch, sk next stitch] 20 times, sc in last stitch

Finish off, cut yarn

Step Three

Assemble the pillow

Place the front and back, wrong sides together, with white yarn start in one corner and single crochet all the way around the outside edge, working through both layers, work 3 sc in corners. Once you have worked around 3 sides put the pillow insert into the pillow cover, finish sc along the last side.

Finish off and weave in ends
