This crocheted pillow cover is made by making 24 hexagon motifs and joining them together. The hexagons fit together in a way that creates the square pillow shape. The pillow insert is completely enclosed in the cover so this particular cover is not removable. It fits a 14 inch pillow insert. Five colors of yarn were used to make the hexagons and a random color placement was used.

What you need to make this project

Materials: Soft Touch Pillow 14" x 14"

Supplies: Worsted Weight Yarn in 5 colors (sample used Lion Brand Heartland in Glacier Bay, Redwood, Lake Clark, Great Smoky Mountains, Kings Canyon); I Crochet Hook; Scissors; Yarn Needle

Instructions

Step One

Make 24 hexagon motifs, I used 5 colors of yarn so I made 5 of each color and had 1 leftover.

Using I hook begin with magic ring, beginning ch 3 counts as a dc

Round 1: in mr, ch 3, 1 dc, ch 2, [2 dc, ch 2] 5 times, join to beginning ch 3 (12 dc, 6 ch spaces)

Round 2: ch 3, dc in next stitch, dc in ch space, ch 2, [dc in ch space, dc in next 2 dc, dc in ch space, ch 2] 5 times, dc in ch space, join to beginning ch 3 (24 dc, 6 ch spaces)

Round 3: ch 3, dc in next 2 stitches, dc in ch space, ch 2, [dc in ch space, dc in next 4 dc, dc in ch space, ch 2] 5 times, dc in ch space, dc in next stitch, join to beginning ch 3 (36 dc, 6 ch spaces)

Finish off

Step Two

Lay out your hexagons to create the color pattern that you want.

Step Three

Stitch the hexagons together by stitching on the wrong side through the back loops of the double crochet and ch stitches. First stitch all of the hexagons into a big flat piece that looks like the shape in the picture.
