    Step One

Cut your cotton fabric to 3.5 inches by 36 inches. This will be the top of your snake. Draw and cut the tail and head for your snake. I kept mine very basic with a pointed tail and a rounded head.

    Step Two

Make your snakes tongue. I used a scrap of wool blend felt and cut in the shape of a “Y”. You can get creative or leave the tongue out if you prefer. Be sure to pin the tongue in place

Give your snake eyes. I used a fabric marker and drew them on.

    Step Three

The top of your snake is now finished. Now it is time to sandwich your snake together.

Turn your top fabric right side down on your fabric for the bottom of your snake. I have selected a red minky. You can cut your bottom fabric to 3.5 inches by 36 inches, or you can allow for a larger allowance as I have. I pinned my snake top then cut the minky to allow about 1/4 – 1/2 inch all the way around. This will make sewing the slippery minky much easier.

    Step Four

Sew your snake together. Be sure to leave a 2” opening to turn and fill your snake.

If you left the 1/2 inch allowance on the bottom you can trim it now.

Turn your snake right side out and press it

    Step Five

Fill your snake. If you are making a weighted version you will be filling it with Poly-Pellets. My snake held about 3 pounds of pellets. If you would like the make a plush version, you can fill it with Poly-Fill instead.

    Step Six

Stitch the opening closed. Make sure you double stitch it. The last thing you want is for the pellets to come out. I use the ladder stitch, which I double stitched, but you can use whatever method you prefer. You now have a lovely snake ready for cuddles.
