Instructions

  • Spring Flower Pillow1

Step One

Pillow:

Cut one 19 inch square (front) and two 19 x 14 inch rectangles (back) from oly-fun™

Topstitch around the inside edges of the pillow front, stitching 1 ¾ inches away from the outside edges. Repeat stitching four additional lines spacing them ½ inch in from the previously stitched row.  Diagram A

Step Two

Turn under the left side (14 inch) on one of the back pieces 1 inch, press then repeat to make a double turned hem. Topstitch along the inside folded edge through all layers of the fabric. Repeat along the right side of the remaining back piece.  Diagram B

Step Three

Lay the pillow backs on top of the pillow front, right sides together with the back pieces overlapping each other. Stitch around the outside edge using a ½ inch seam. Diagram C

Step Four

Turn right side out and press. Insert pillow form.

Step Five

Flower:

Using the patterns and/or dimensions provided cut out the flower petals, center ruffle and stamen strips. Diagram A

Step Six

Top stitch using white thread around each petal. Diagram B

Step Seven

Using a needle and thread with a knot on one end, stitch the five largest petals together using a large gathering stitch. Draw up the thread and distribute the gathers. Stitch back into the flower center to secure the gathers and trim away any excess thread. Diagram C

Step Eight

Repeat stitching and gathering together the four smaller petals. Diagram D

Step Nine

Using a needle and thread with a knot on one end, stitch along one edge of the center ruffle using a large gathering stitch. Diagram E

Step Ten

Draw up the thread and distribute the gathers. Stitch back into the ruffle to secure the gathers and trim away any excess thread. Using the glue gun, add a drop of glue to the open edge of the center ruffle, gluing the two edges together. Diagram F

Step Eleven

To create the flower stamen; wrap one of the 1/2″ strips around itself to form 8″ wide loops, continue until all three strips have been used. Wrap a piece of wire around the center of the loops and twist the ends together, gathering the loops together tightly at the center point. Trim away excess wire and flatten the wire ends against the back of the flower stamen. Cut open the loops, using an angle cut. Trim length if desired. Diagram G

Step Twelve

Stack the flower layers,center and stamen on top of each other, adding glue and pressing until the glue sets between each of the layers. Diagram H

Step Thirteen

Center the flower onto the pillow front and glue in place.
