Scandinavian Snowflake Pillow

Categories: Decor, Pillow, Crochet, Holiday, Winter

Corner to corner crochet has been very popular recently, especially using it to crochet graphs. You use groups of double crochet worked diagonally in a stair step type pattern to create different pictures, changing colors as needed. This  Scandinavian Snowflake  pillow is a great way to try out corner to corner if you haven’t already because it only uses two colors. It is also a great addition to your Christmas Decor.

Instructions

  • turning-block
  • three-rows
  • second-square
  • pillow-front-2

Step One

Make the front of the pillow by following the graph in corner to corner graph. To follow the graph you will begin in the bottom left corner and work diagonally up to the top right.

Start with the burgundy yarn

Row 1: ch 6, skip 3 ch, 1 dc in each of the last three ch (you have now completed the first square, the bottom left corner of the graph)

Row 2: ch 6, skip 3 ch, 1 dc in each of the last three ch, turn so that the square you just made is next to the first one from the previous row, slip stitch into the space left by the ch 3 of the previous square, ch 3, working into the ch 3 space from row 1 work 3 dc (you just finished 2 more squares, one just to the right and one just above the corner square)

Row 3: ch 6, skip 3 ch, 1 dc in each of the last three ch, turn so that the square you just made is next to the first one from the previous row, change color to white, slip stitch into the space left by the ch 3 of the previous square, ch 3, working into the ch 3 space from row 1 work 3 dc, change color to burgundy, slip stitch into the space left by the ch 3 of the previous square, ch 3, working into the ch 3 space from row 1 work 3 dc (this row has a total of three squares 1 burgundy, 1 white, 1 burgundy)

Continue working the pattern, following the chart for color changes, when you get to the center and finish increasing you will need to decrease by slip stitching across the three dc of the square you just made, then ch 3 and work as normal. when you complete the entire square do not cut your yarn

ch 1, sc all the way around the outside of the pillow front working 3 sc in each corner.

  • pillow-back

Step Two

Work the back the same way as the front but without changing colors, I just made it out of plain burgundy.

sc around the outside same as the front

  • stitching-pillow-together

Step Three

Using white yarn with wrong sides together crochet around the outside through both layers. When you get 2 to 3 sides done put pillow insert in and finish sewing together.

  • crab-stitch-border

Step Four

add final border around the outside. Use burgundy yarn and attach any where along the outside white border. Reverse sc in each stitch around.
