Recycled Remnant Pillows

Categories: Gifts, Bedding, Decor, Pillow, Cushions

We made these easy and colorful throw pillows by recycling some old upholstery sample books that our local stores gave us for free. Best thing is they are already in square and rectangle shapes so you can create pillows with simple straight sewing.

Instructions

Step One

Go to your local upholstery store and craft shops to see if they have some old or extra upholstery sample books that you can have.

Step Two

Take the books apart and lay the sample pieces on the floor in color coordinating groups. Decide which color story you like best and start mixing and matching the fabrics for the front and backs of the pillows until you find the combination you want.

Now you can see how many pillows inserts you will need and at what sizes. Remember you will have to adjust the sizes to include room for the seam allowances.  Also, some remnants have small holes where they were bound in the book so you will need to trim them first.

Step Three

Once you have gathered all your supplies its time to make the pillow covers. For each pillow put the fabric together with right sides facing in. Sew around three sides using a 1/4 inch seam allowance.

Step Four

Turn right side out and iron. Top stitch along the three closed sides using a 1/4 inch seam allowance. Insert the pillow form, tuck in the edges on the open side, pin, and sew closed using a 1/4 inch seam allowance.

Step Five

Enjoy!
