Oly-Fun™ is the perfect fabric for this fun pillow topper to greet your October guests. Owls are popping up everywhere, why not on a pillow front. What makes this project even more versatile is the easy on and off foldover flap at the back, slip in a Crafters Choice® Pillow Insert and you are set. When Halloween is over and the goblins are safely tucked in their beds simply switch out the topper for something creative to welcome the Thanksgiving season. Oly-Fun™ is so easy to cut with no fraying and sewing through multiple layers is simple.

What you need to make this project

Materials: Crafter's Choice® PIllow Insert 12" x 16"; 3/8 yard of Oly-Fun™ Jet Black; 1/4 yard of Oly-Fun™ Snow White; 1/4 yard of Oly-Fun™ Jelly; 1/4 yard of Oly-Fun™ Kiwi; 1/8 yard of Oly-Fun™ Lemon Drop; Black & White Thread; Two 3/8" White Buttons

Supplies: Computer printout of pattern sheets; Basic Sewing, Pressing and Cutting tools & supplies

Instructions

Step One

Print the pattern pieces onto 8 1/2″ x 11″ sheets of copy paper and cut them apart. Take note of the pattern pieces that need to be placed onto the fold of the oly-fun™

Step Two

Cut out two 13″ x 12″ (Pillow Back Flaps) and one 13″ x 17″ (Pillow Front) rectangles from Jet black oly-fun™. Lay pattern pieces onto the desired color of oly-fun™ and cut out. Note: The right side of oly-fun™ is up to you. Just be consistent after choosing a side.

Step Three

Turn under 1″ along one of the 13″ sides of each of the Back Pillow Flaps. Press, then stitch. Step by Step diagrams have been provided. Diagram A

Step Four

Center the Jelly oly-fun™ cut out to the pillow front right sides up. Top stitch. Diagram B

Step Five

Center the Kiwi only-fun™ cut out on top of the Jelly oly-fun™ right sides up. Top stitch. Diagram C

Step Six

Center the two Snow White oly-fun™ cut outs (eyes) on top of the Kiwi oly-fun™ right sides up. Top stitch. Diagram D

Step Seven

Center the two Jet Black oly-fun™ circle cut outs (pupils) on top of the Snow White oly-fun™ right sides up. Top stitch, Stitching from the outside stitching line across to the opposite side. Refer to the diagram for guidance. Hand stitch two buttons to the left side of the Jet Black oly-fun™ pupils. Refer to the diagram for guidance. Diagram E

Step Eight

Center the Lemon Drop oly-fun™ cut out (beak) on top of the Jet Black oly-fun™ beak and place on top of the owl face. Top stitch. Refer to the diagram for placement. Diagram F

Step Nine

With right sides together, pin the pillow top and two pillow back flaps together. Stitch using a 1/2″ seam. Trim corners and turn right sides out. Insert Crafter’s Choice Pillow Form. Diagram G.
