No-Sew Huggable Crochet Pal

If you’ve been intimidated by amigurumi because you worry about sewing all the pieces together, don’t worry! This huggable pal is crocheted in one piece with no sewing. Legs, arms, muzzle, tail, and ears are joined to the body while in progress.

What you need to make this project

Materials
2 – 8 oz (227 g) packages of Poly-Fil Supreme® Ultra Plush Fiber Fill.
Red Heart Super Saver (100% acrylic, 7 oz/198 g/364 yd/333 m) – 1 skein ea in 360 Café Latte (CA), 313 Aran (CB), and 312 Black (CC), or approximately 276 yd (252 m) in CA, 35 yd (32 m) in CB, and 10 yd (9 m) in CC in any medium weight yarn.
Pair of safety eyes.
Supplies
US Size F-5/3.75 mm crochet hook, or size needed to obtain gauge.
Yarn needle.
Clover Quick Locking Stitch Marker set, or 2 locking stitch markers.

Step One

Finished Size

  • Approximately 13” (33 cm) tall when seated.

Gauge

  • Through Rnd 10 = 4” (10 cm) diameter in pattern for body. Exact gauge is not critical for this project but stitches should be small so that fiber filling doesn’t show.

Pattern Notes

  • When choosing colors, note that CA is the main color. CB is used for the foot and hand pads, the front of the ears, and the muzzle. CC is used for the muzzle.
  • The project is crocheted in the round in unjoined spirals. Stitch marker 1 is used to track the position of each Round and should be moved up each Round unless otherwise directed.
  • Positions of increases are changed each Round in lower body to avoid forming pointed corners.
  • The project is crocheted from the underside to head in one piece.

  • Thread yarn tail through yarn needle. Sew remaining sts on Tail Rnd 3 closed. Turn tail inside out. Weave in ends on inside of tail. Turn tail right side out.

Continue body

  • Remove stitch marker 2 and return hook to last loop of Rnd 22.
  • Rnds 23-24: ScBL in ea st around.

Shape torso

  • Rnd 25: *ScBL in next 13 sts, invdecBL; rep from * around. (84 sts)
  • Rnd 26: *ScBL in next 12 sts, invdecBL; rep from * around. (78 sts)
  • Rnd 27: *ScBL in next 11 sts, invdecBL; rep from * around. (72 sts)

  • Rnd 57: ScBL in ea st around. Place marker 2 in front of this Rnd to indicate which Rnd to position eyes.
  • Rnd 58: With front of head facing, fold head gently in half. Position marker 1 at side of head at fold to mark position for ear opening. ScBL around to 3 sts before marker 1, remove marker 1 and place in last st to mark end of Rnd.

Continue shaping head toward crown

  • Rnd 67: *ScBL in next 2 sts, invdecBL; rep from * around. (18 sts)
  • Rnd 68: *ScBL in next st, invdecBL; rep from * around. Add stuffing if necessary. (12 sts)
  • Rnd 69: InvdecBL around. Fasten off with 12” (30.5 cm) yarn tail for seaming. (6 sts)
