Macaron Cushion

Categories: Kid Friendly, Crochet, Cushions

Oversized crocheted food is super popular right now and it can be a lot of fun. This French Macaron cushion is perfect for anyone who loves France or sweet treats. My daughter loves Paris and baking so she was so excited to see it finished. It is crocheted in 2 pieces that are sewn together to make a cover for Fairfield’s Cushion Foam Tuffet. The 18″ round, 6″ deep foam cushion is perfect in size and shape to create a for a macaron cushion. Surround the foam cylinder with Cushion Wrap for added comfort and softness.

The use of thick yarn and basic stitches make this a quick and easy project to make over a weekend.

Instructions

  • Wrapped Foam Cushion

Step One

The first thing you will want to do is prepare your tuffet by wrapping the Cushion Wrap around the foam tuffet. Use basting spray, spraying one section at a time, to stick the wrap to the foam. Trim any excess or bulky areas so that the wrap fits nicely around the foam tuffet. Set the cushion aside.

  • Macaron Top

Step Two

Make 2 of the following pieces out of the main color. They will be the cookie portion of your macaron, the top and bottom sections.

Begin with magic ring (mr), beginning ch 2 does not count as a stitch

Round 1: in mr, ch 2, 12 dc, join with sl st to first dc (12 dc)

Round 2: ch 2, 2 dc in each stitch, join with sl st to first dc (24 dc)

Round 3: ch 2, [2 dc in first stitch, 1 dc in next stitch] repeat around, join with sl st to first dc (36 dc)

Round 4: ch 2, [2 dc in first stitch, 1 dc in next 2 stitches] repeat around, join with sl st to first dc (48 dc)

Round 5: ch 2, [2 dc in first stitch, 1 dc in next 3 stitches] repeat around, join with sl st to first dc (60 dc)

Round 6: ch 2, [2 dc in first stitch, 1 dc in next 4 stitches] repeat around, join with sl st to first dc (72 dc)

Round 7: ch 2, [2 dc in first stitch, 1 dc in next 5 stitches] repeat around, join with sl st to first dc (84 dc)

Round 8: ch 2, [2 dc in first stitch, 1 dc in next 6 stitches] repeat around, join with sl st to first dc (96 dc)

Round 9: ch 2, 1 dc in each stitch, join with sl st to first stitch (96 dc)

Round 10: ch 2, 1 dc in each stitch, join with sl st to first stitch (96 dc)

Round 11: ch 1, 1 sc in flo each stitch (back loops will be left unworked in this step and used in a later step), join with sl st to first stitch (96 dc)

Finish off, cut yarn

You will set one aside, and continue working on the other as you add the middle section (the filling)

Step Four

Place the sections on the cushion and stitch the middle section to the second main piece, stitching the edge of the “filling to the back loops of the “cookie” piece.

Once you have stitched all the way around so the foam tuffet is fully enclosed weave in the ends of your yarn and trim.
