Instructions

Step One

This project uses 1/4 inch seam allowances.

For center square: Start with two 3 inch squares of coordinating fabrics. Cut diagonally in both directions creating four triangles of each fabric. With right sides facing in pin together one triangle from each of the two different fabrics and sew along long edge using a ¼ inch seam allowance. Repeat with rest of triangles creating 4 split squares of fabric.  Sew these squares together creating a pinwheel pattern. Repeat process to create center squares for each coaster.

Step Two

Cut the other coordinating fabric into 2 inch strips and attach to the center square using the log cabin block technique.

Step Three

Cut backing fabric, Toasty Cotton™ batting and Shield interfacing to the same size as the finished block. Lay the backing on the table right side down. Then the two pieces of batting. Next the shield with shiny side facing up and lastly the block right side facing up. Stitch around outer edge.

Step Four

Pin all layers together and stitch in the ditch of the center square. Bind with solid fabric. Repeat for other coasters.
