Instructions

Step One

Download our suggestions to assist with dying the chunky cotton yarn. Dying process will take 6 to 8 hours. Air dry time is 3 to 6 hours depending on location. Yarn must be completely dry before pompoms can be made.

For an 18″ pillow, cut two 20” x 20” squares from the Embrace fabric using the rotary cutter, mat and acrylic ruler. Set one piece aside. Lay the other on a flat surface with a piece of cardboard behind the fabric to use as a blotter.

Step Two

Find the center of the fabric by folding in half and pressing lightly to crease. Tape fabric to the cardboard and position the stencil over the center of the fabric. Three rows of the Moroccan Inlay pattern will be stenciled. Tape stencil in place.

Step Three

Create a quick paint palette by covering a piece of cardboard with foil. Pour a small amount of paint onto the foil. Thin the paint by adding a few drops of water. Mix the water and paint together.

Step Four

Dip the sea sponge into the paint. Blot sponge on the foil a few times to off-load some paint allowing for better control. Begin dabbing the fabric with the sponge. Fill in the stenciled pattern.

Step Five

To keep paint from bleeding under the stencil, start each shape in the center and work out to the edges. This is a great tip if stenciling for the first time. Let paint dry and remove stencil.

Step Six

Sew or stick (no-sew method) edges together to create a pillow case.  Leave the raw edges exposed. If making the non-sewn case, place stenciled fabric square on a flat surface, stenciled side down. Run a strip of ¼” Fabric Fusion 1” from the edge onto three sides of the fabric. Carefully place the second 20”x 20” piece of fabric on top. Be sure ends match up and top fabric does not bunch. Pat your hand over the tape seam to ensure bonding. Insert the Soft Touch pillow form through the opening and close by sewing or using the Fabric Fusion tape.

Step Seven

Make seven 2 ½” blue pompoms using the pompom maker. Sew or use the Fabric Fusion tape to secure the pompoms in place. Follow above diagram for placement.
