Hot Cocoa Christmas Ornament

Categories: Crochet, Holiday, Winter

Nothing is better on a cold winter night than a nice warm cup of hot cocoa. As a result, I thought a cup of cocoa would be a perfect Christmas ornament. There are lots of things you can add to your cocoa, marshmallows, candy canes, or even a swirl of whipped cream. I usually drink mine plain, but I thought a little something on top would be fun so I decided to add a dollop of whipped cream. If you would rather add marshmallows you could just add some tiny circles on top. The ornament is stuffed with Poly-Fil® Premium Fiber Fill so it is lightweight and perfect for hanging on your tree. It would be fun as a play food toy for kids too.

Instructions

  • Crochet Mug

Step One

You will begin by making the main part of the mug.

Begin with a magic ring and the yarn you are using for the mug (light blue in my case)

Round 1: in mr, ch 1, 6 sc (6 sc)

Round 2: 2 sc in each stitch (12 sc)

Round 3: [2 sc in first stitch, 1 sc in next] repeat around (18 sc)

Round 4: [2 sc in first stitch, 1 sc in next 2] repeat around (24 sc)

Round 5: [2 sc in first stitch, 1 sc in next 3] repeat around (30 sc)

Round 6: 1 sc in blo of each stitch (30 sc)

Rounds 7- 13: 1 sc in each stitch (30 sc)

Round 14: 1 sc in flo of each stitch (this leaves the back loop on the inside to sew the cocoa in) (30 sc)

Round 15: 1 sc in each stitch (30 sc)

Finish off, weave in ends

Step Two

Next make the handle

Start with a magic ring, using the same color of yarn as the mug

Round 1: in mr, ch 1, 6 sc (6 sc)

Round 2-10: 1 sc in each stitch (6 sc)

Finish off, leaving long tail for sewing

Set aside

Step Three

Make the chocolate

Use brown yarn, begin with magic ring

Round 1: in mr, ch 1, 6 sc (6 sc)

Round 2: 2 sc in each stitch (12 sc)

Round 3: [2 sc in first stitch, 1 sc in next] repeat around (18 sc)

Round 4: [2 sc in first stitch, 1 sc in next 2] repeat around (24 sc)

finish off, leave long tail for sewing

  • Cocoa Mug Ornament Pieces

Step Four

The last piece to make is the whipped cream

Use white yarn and begin with a magic ring

Round 1: in mr, ch 1, 4 sc (4 sc)

Round 2: [2 sc in first stitch, 1 sc in next] repeat (6 sc)

Round 3: 2 sc in each stitch (12 sc)

Round 4: 1 sc in each stitch (12 sc)

Finish off, leave long tail for sewing

  • Crocheted Cocoa

Step Five

Next you will assemble your mug of cocoa

Stuff the mug portion, then sew the brown circle into the mug stitching into the loops left open in round 14. You will be have 24 stitches around the circle and 30 around the mug so you can skip every 5th stitch on the mug or stitch into the same stitch on the brown in the 4th and 5th stitchesof the mug

You can add more stuffing as needed while stitching the top closed

Next, add the handle to the side of the mug, stitch the ends of the tube to the side of the mug.

Last, add the whipped topping to the top by stitching it to the brown circle.

Step Six

Add a string just inside of the mug by the handle to hang the ornament.
