Materials
1/2 yard of Halloween print cotton fabric
1/2 yard of Black cotton fabric
Poly-fil® low-loft® quilt batting 45x60
Supplies
Metallic thread - Silver
Two 1/2 inch buttons per placemat
sewing, measuring, cutting and pressing tools

Instructions

Step One

Cut the following for each placemat: Halloween fabric – four 6 x 7 ¾ rectangles (window panes) and one 15 x 18 inch rectangle (backing), Black fabric – 2 ¼ inch strip, 1 inch strip and 1 ¾ inch strip, Quilt Batting – 15 x 18 inch rectangle

Step Two

With right sides together stitch a 1 inch strip between the inside edges of two window panes. Repeat. Trim fabric strips even with the edges of the window panes.

Step Three

With right sides together stitch a 1 inch strip between the two sets of window panes. Trim.

With right sides together stitch the 1 ½ inch strips to the sides of the window panes. Trim.

Repeat stitching a 1 ½ inch strip across the top edge of the window panes. Trim

Step Four

With right sides together stitch the 2 ½ inch strip to the bottom edge of the window panes. Trim

Step Five

Layer the placemat front and back right sides together and cover with batting. Stitch around the outside edge leaving a 3 inch opening along one edge. Clip corners. Turn right side out and press. Hand stitch the opening closed.

Step Six

Top stitch around the outside edges of the placemat.

Stitch spider web accents and window handles using metallic thread. Sew buttons to either side of the window handle.
