Pygmy Puffs are one of the most endearing and adorable magical creatures in the Harry Potter series.  Typically pygmy puffs are small and fit in your hand, but this Pygmy Puff Pillow is super-sized for snuggling and reading in bed.  Perfect to make for yourself or the Harry Potter fan in your life.

Instructions

Step One

Gather your supplies.  I really loved the Candy Shag Fur in Hot Pink from Shannon Fabrics for this since it has white fur under the pink for a more textured look.  Candy Shag Fur in Lavendar is also a great choice since pygmy puffs can be purple or pink.  You’ll need a scrap of Cuddle® Fleece Fuchsia or similar fabric for the face.  (Whatever you use for the face it needs to be fabric that won’t unravel.  You could use regular fleece if necessary.)

Step Two

With the furry sides together, fold your fabric in half and trace around a large bowl to make the largest circle you can.  Without moving the fabric, pin through your traced line.

Step Three

Stitch around your circle with a 1-inch seam allowance.  (You may want to stitch on your line.  The size of my bowl worked out to be just a tad bit too close to the edges of my fabric, so I stitched inside my line by 1/2 an inch.

Leave an opening large enough for your hand to comfortably fit through.

Step Four

Cut out the face shape from the fleece.

Snip TINY holes in the fleece where you want your eyes and nose to go.

Slip eyes through the holes and press the back piece on to hold it in place.

It should look like this on the back.

And like this on the front.

Step Five

Brush fur away from the spot where you plan to add your face.

Pin your face in place just through the top layer of your pillow.  Start at the lower left cheek and stitch up around the head to the other cheek.  Instead of stitching around the ears, stitch across the base of the ears so they will be loose.  You’ll find it easier to sew if you keep one hand on the outside and the other hand on the inside of your pillow to help work the needle.  Don’t worry about trying to make your stitching super neat.  My stitching was REALLY sloppy and it didn’t show at all.  The fur and the fleece work together to make the threads completely disappear.

Once you just have a small opening at the chin, put some Poly-Fil inside to make it pop.

Finish stitching the chin closed and you’ll be finished with your Pygmy Puff’s face.

Step Six

Now you get to fill your pillow with Poly-Fil Supreme® Ultra Plush Fiber Fill.  I love pillows to be really plump, so we really crammed in the stuffing.

Afterward, hand stitch the opening to close your pillow.  As before…it’s hard to sew neatly through fur, but the stitches won’t show, so it’s okay for them to be a little sloppy.

Now all that’s left is to name your new Pygmy Puff Pillow.  Our kids have decided to names ours Arnold in honor of Ginny’s Weasley’s pet.
