Freddie the Frog is a sweet little softie that any child will love playing with or using it with the lily pad nap mat shown below. He is constructed with one pattern piece and is so easy to make that it is a great beginner sewing project.

What you need to make this project

Materials
Poly-Fil® Poly Pellets® Weighted Stuffing Beads
1/4 Yard of Main Fabric
2 White Felt Circles 3/4"
2 Black Felt Circles 1/2/"
Coordinating polyester thread

Instructions

Step One

NOTE:

  1. This project uses 3/8” seam allowances, except where noted.
  2. Use a pressing cloth if necessary and test all fabrics before pressing.

 

Please read the instructions below before beginning. Gather the materials and supplies.

Step Two

Cut the fabric as follows:

  • 2 pattern pieces from the main fabric*
  • 2 white felt circles about ¾” in diameter
  • 2 black felt circles about ½“ in diameter

* NOTE: If you are using a fabric with a nap, make sure that it is all going in the same direction.

Step Three

Applique the black circle to the bottom of the white circle.

Step Four

Applique the white of the eyes to the main frog fabric, noting placement in the picture.

Step Five

Pin 2 fabric pieces with right sides together.

Step Six

Stitch using a short stitch length and leaving an opening 1 ½” at the bottom of the frog. See pattern. Check both sides to make sure that there is no opening. Clip curves and all points carefully.

Step Seven

Turn right side out. Use a pointer to push out all the extremities.

TIP: Easily pull the extremities right side out with a hemostat.

Step Eight

Using a funnel, fill the frog with Poly-Fil® Poly Pellets® Weighted Stuffing Beads. Clip the opening closed.

Step Nine

Hand stitch the opening closed with a whip stitch.
