DIY Silver OlyFun Letter Party Balloons

Categories: Decor, Oly*Fun

Balloons eventually deflate, but this OlyFun version will last for years. Metallic gold and silver jumbo letter and word balloons have been very popular lately for parties, special events, and even music videos. You can make your own custom faux balloons with metallic OlyFun, available in silver, gold, rose gold, and red. I made a word balloon and letter balloons of my daughter’s name, to hang in her room. They’re great for room decor, parties, banners, gifts, and special events. Graduation and wedding season is upon us, making this great timing for a custom faux balloon banner, that’s affordable and easy to make.

Instructions

  • DIY Silver OlyFun Letter Party Balloons 1

Step One

On the metallic OlyFun back, draw out your word or letters, with a pen. I practiced the name in cursive, on paper, before drawing it on the OlyFun. With a permanent marker, trace the drawn lines.

Step Two

Cut out the word or letters.

Step Three

Flip over the word or letters. Lay them on another OlyFun back section, with the cut word or letters, shiny side up. Use masking tape, to secure the cut pieces to the OlyFun. DO NOT USE STRAIGHT PINS!

Step Four

Trace around the word or letters, with a pen. Move the tape as needed, to trace the full outline.

Step Five

Cut out the traced word or letters.

Step Six

Lay the silicone craft mat on your work surface. Add a hot glue stick to your low temp hot glue gun. Turn on your hot glue gun. Let it fully heat up before using. Test it out on your silicone mat, to make sure the glue it flowing well.

Step Seven

Match the word or letter pieces, shiny side out. With the low temp hot glue glue, working in small sections, carefully glue the pieces together, around the edges. Leave 2″-3″ openings in sections where stuffing might be easiest. These will be closed later.

Step Eight

With small bunches of Poly-Fil stuffing, and the chopstick, stuff the word or letters. I found the cursive word was more difficult to stuff than the letters, due to having more curves. The stuffing will give the word and letters the look of a puffy balloon.

Step Nine

With low temp hot glue gun, carefully glue to the openings closed. I found the chopstick was handy for smoothing the glued opening.

Step Ten

For the letters, hot glue small matching metallic OlyFun strips on the upper back, between the letters, to string them together. For any letters that might stretch shape, like the V, hot glue a strip on the back, across that wide section. This is optional, but faster than hanging each letter separately.

Step Eleven

Hot glue strips on the upper back, at the ends, to hang the word or letters.
