DIY Geometric Oly*Fun Earrings

Category: Fashion Accessories

These geometric earrings use Oly*Fun paired with a Silhouette Cameo. If you have a Silhouette Cameo, you can download this Geometric Earrings studio file I used and it will be compatible with your machine. If you want a pattern to hand cut the design, then download this Geometric Earrings image file. These patterns are just for personal use, not for resale of the pattern or finished products. I’ve been experimenting with Oly*Fun to create accessories on my Silhouette Cameo, and so far the results are fantastic. Oly*Fun is very lightweight, which is great for oversized jewelry. You can create large jewelry pieces, like these geometric earrings, without it pulling on your earrings, or other body parts.

Instructions

Step One

If you have a Silhouette Cameo, open this cut file in Silhouette Studio on your computer. Add strip of Jet Black Oly*Fun, 8″ wide by 4″ tall to the top left of your cutting mat. Load the Silhouette Cameo cutting mat into your Silhouette Cameo. I found that the default cut settings worked fine, so no double cutting is needed. Your fabric blade depth should be a 3 or 4. Send the cut file to your machine. After the machine is done cutting the earrings, unload your mat. Gently peel the pieces from your mat.

Step Two

If you don’t have a Silhouette Cameo, you can use an Xacto knife and a self-healing cutting mat. Print this geometric earrings pattern. Pin the pattern to a 8″ wide by 4″ tall piece of Jet Black Oly*Fun. Use scissors to cut out the perimeter of each earring. Use the Xacto knife and self-healing cutting mat, to cut out the interior triangles for each earring.

Step Three

Lay the earring pieces out on wax paper. You will have four pieces, two which reverse the other two. Use the Tulip Slick Dimensional Paint Black Light 3 Pack to add dots to each earring. Let the paint dry completely before moving on.

Step Four

Match up the earrings, so there are two opposite pieces per earring. Apply Beacon Fabri-Tac glue to the back of one earring. Carefully, lay the opposite earring back onto the glued back, so all the edges line up perfectly. Repeat for the other earring pieces. Let dry for a few minutes.

Step Five

Open one jump ring with both jewelry pliers. Add one Oly*Fun earring and earring hook to the jump ring. Close the jump ring with both jewelry pliers, making sure the ends touch. Repeat for the other earring.
