Instructions

Step One

Cuddle-Heart-Pillows

Before starting anything else you’ll need to download and print the heart template.  Because the heart is so large, you’ll need to tape the pattern pieces together.

Step Two

Using your heart template, cut out two heart shapes on the fold.

Step Three

Cut 1 – 5″ strip the width of your fabric.  (60-inches).  The picture shows the fabric folded in half when I cut it, and the photo shows and unnecessary smaller piece.

Step Four

Beginning at the bottom point and leaving an extra half-inch, pin your 5″ strip THOROUGHLY (about every inch) around the edge in preparation to sew a 1/2 inch seam allowance.  Lots of pinning is necessary with cuddle fabrics because that super softness also makes the fabric slip.  Leave an extra half inch at each end for sewing your heart closed.

Step Five

Stitch around your heart with a half-inch seam allowance.  Using a walking foot on your sewing machine helps feed the fabric through evenly, but you can also use a regular foot.

Snip the seam allowance at the top of your heart close to the seam, but DO NOT cut the thread.

Step Six

Thoroughly pin the second heart to the other side of your strip, being sure to match the top and bottom corners of your heart to the equal places on your side strip.  Sew with a 1/2 seam allowance.  Snip the seam allowance at the top corner.  The place at the bottom of your heart where the ends of your side strip meet should still be open.

Step Seven

Through the opening at the bottom of your pillow, stuff your heart to desired firmness using approx. 32 ounces of Poly-Fil® Premium Fiber Fill.  My pillows ended up pretty firm to achieve the look I wanted.

Then stitch your pillow closed by hand using matching thread.  Tuck the raw edges of the side strip inside as you stitch.  I found the thick rose and puma cuddle was so lush that I could use rather large sloppy stitches and they still didn’t show at all.  I also found it helpful to tie my my initial knot around a small bead because otherwise my knot pulled through.  Once you have stitched the opening closed, tie a knot and hide your tail.

Step Eight

And you’re done!

You won’t want to stop there, though!  You may decide you need at matching quilt and square pillows.
