Finish off by cutting yarn, weaving through the last 6 stitches, pulling to tighten and close the hole, then bury the yarn end inside of the body

Step Two

Make 2 arms

using tan yarn
Round 1: in magic ring, ch 1, 6 sc (6 sc)
Round 2: sc in each stitch, change to red yarn (6 sc)
Round 3-6: sc in each stitch (6 sc)

Finish off leaving long end for sewing

sew one arm to each side of the body along the neckline

  • belt and crosspieces
  • soldier with uniform

Step Three

Next you will make the belt and the white strips for the x on the front of the uniform.

with white yarn make 2:

leave a few inches of yarn for sewing at the beginning, ch 10, cut yarn leaving a few inches of yarn on that end too

These will be sewn to the front of the shirt to make the x.

To make the belt:

ch 31 (or number needed to reach around belly +1 for turning
sc in second ch from hook and each ch to the end (30 sc)
finish off leaving long end for sewing

Place the 2 10 ch pieces so that they go from one shoulder to the opposite side of the waist to create an x. Sew in place by tacking each end with a couple of stitches.

Place the belt around the center of the belly so that the ends meet in the back and you cover the waist ends of the x, stitch the ends together and stitch in place.

Step Four

To make the hat start with black yarn

Round 1: in magic ring, ch 1, 6 sc (6 sc)
Round 2: 2 sc in each stitch (12 sc)
Round 3: [1 sc in first stitch, 2 sc in next] repeat around (18 sc)
Round 4: [1 sc in first 2 stitches, 2 sc in next] repeat around (24 sc)
Rounds 5-9: 1 sc in each stitch (24 sc)

slip stitch to next stitch but do not cut yarn, make the chinstrap by ch 10, skip 10 stitches along the front of the hat, slip stitch to the next stitch, finish off leaving long end for sewing

with gold yarn embroider small decoration on the top front of hat, I made a lazy daisy stitch with 2 backstitches at the bottom, stuff the hat slightly to help it hold its shape and sew to head so that it covers most of the back of the head and leaves room for the face in the front

  • soldier wearing hat

Step Five

Embroider face, attach piece of crochet thread to the top of the hat for hanging, and hang him on your Christmas tree.
