Crocheted Mermaid Doll

Categories: Kid Friendly, Doll, Crochet

This cute and cuddly mermaid doll is so much fun to play with. My little girls absolutely love it. At 18″ tall it is the perfect size for carrying around, playing, and cuddling with. Any little girl who dreams of being a mermaid will love this doll. She is worked starting from the bottom of the tail to the top of the head, the tail, body, and head worked in one piece. The arms and hair wig are made separately and sewn on. A flower in her hair adds an extra special finishing touch.

cut yarn leaving long tail for sewing

Cut 34 long lengths of yarn (I cut mine about 3 ft long)

Attach one piece of yarn in each of the unworked stitches from round 16, I skipped one stitch on either side of the bangs and then added them around in all of the other stitches

Attach by folding the yarn strand in half, insert hook into stitch, grab the middle of the strand and pull through a little ways then pull the ends through that loop, pull to tighten

Place on the head so that you know that it is where you want it and can make sure that the braids will lay correctly

Separate the hair into 2 sections (each should have 34 strands), divide each of those sections into 3 smaller sections (11, 12, 11) and braid

when your braids are the length you want tie them off and trim

Stitch the wig cap on to the head

  • Mermaid Hair Flower
  • Tie Details

Step Six

Add finishing details

To make the tie around the neck:

ch 30, wrap around the neck and stitch the ends in place in the center of the front

To make the flower for the hair:

with pink yarn ch 4, join in circle with sl st

[ch 2, 2 dc cluster (yo, insert in circle, pull up loop, yo, pull through 2, yo, insert in circle, pull up loop, yo, pull through 2, yo, pull through all), ch 2, sl st in circle] 4 times (4 petals)

use yellow yarn to stitch a center on the flower (stitch back and forth across the middle a couple of times) and stitch in place on the head
