Whether you are a fan of pro or college football there are some big games coming up in the next little while. This little crocheted football is a great way to get even the littlest football fan involved. It is stuffed with Poly-Fil so it is light and squishy, perfect for babies and toddlers. You could even add a rattle insert to the middle for a little extra fun for baby.

Instructions

Step One

Using brown yarn and G hook crochet football as follows, stuffing as you go and working in a continuous round:

Round 1: in magic ring, ch 1, 6 sc
Round 2: [2 sc in first stitch, 1 sc in next] 3 times (9 sc)
Round 3: [2 sc in first stitch, 1 sc in next 2 stitches] 3 times (12 sc)
Round 4: [2 sc in first stitch, 1 sc in next 3 stitches] 3 times (15 sc)
Round 5: [2 sc in first stitch, 1 sc in next 2 stitches] 5 times (20 sc)
Round 6: [2 sc in first stitch, 1 sc in next 3 stitches] 5 times (25 sc)
change to white yarn
Round 7: [2 sc in first stitch, 1 sc in next 4 stitches] 5 times (30 sc)
Round 8: 1 sc in each stitch (30 sc)
change to brown yarn
Round 9: [2 sc in first stitch, 1 sc in next 9 stitches] 3 times (33 sc)
Round 10: [2 sc in first stitch, 1 sc in next 10 stitches] 3 times (36 sc)
Round 11: 1 sc in each stitch
Round 12: [2 sc in first stitch, 1 sc in next 11 stitches] 3 times (39 sc)
Round 13: 1 sc in each stitch (39 sc)
Round 14: [2 sc in first stitch, 1 sc in next 12 stitches] 3 times (42 sc)
Round 15: 1 sc in each stitch (42 sc)
Round 16: 1 sc in each stitch (42 sc)
Round 17: [1 sc in first 12 stitches, sc2tog] 3 times (39 sc)
Round 18: 1 sc in each stitch (39 sc)
Round 19: [1 sc in first 11 stitches, sc2tog] 3 times (36 sc)
Round 20: 1 sc in each stitch (36 sc)
Round 21: [1 sc in first 10 stitches, sc2tog] 3 times (33 sc)
change to white yarn
Round 22:[1 sc in first 9 stitches, sc2tog] 3 times (30 sc)
Round 23: 1 sc in each stitch (30 sc)
change to brown yarn, if you haven’t already started stuffing now is a good time to start, continue stuffing until you get to the end, you want it to be fairly firmly stuffed so that you get the right shape
Round 24: [1 sc in first 4 stitches, sc2tog] 5 times (25 sc)
Round 25: [1 sc in first 3 stitches, sc2tog] 5 times (20 sc)
Round 26: [1 sc in first 2 stitches, sc2tog] 5 times (15 sc)
Round 27: [1 sc in first 3 stitches, sc2tog] 3 times (12 sc)
Round 28: [1 sc in first 2 stitches, sc2tog] 3 times (9 sc)
Round 29: [1 sc in first stitch, sc2tog] 3 times (6 sc)
Cut yarn and weave through the last 6 stitches, pull to close and stitch to secure

Step Two

Now use white yarn to make the lines on the top of the football. You will make 1 long piece and 4 short ones.

Make 1:

ch 11
sc in second stitch from hook and each stitch to the end (10 sc)
cut yarn leaving long end for sewing

Make 4:

ch 7
slip stitch in second stitch from hook and each stitch to the end (6 sl st)
cut yarn leaving long end for sewing

Step Three

Sew the strips onto the football, first sew the long one so that it is centered between the white stripes. Then sew on the shorter strips, one on each end of the long strip and two centered between them.
