Materials
Poly-Fil Premium Polyester Fiber Fill - 16 ounce bag.
Lion Brand Basic Stitch Anti Pilling yarn (100% acrylic, 3.5 oz/100 g, 185 yd/170 m) – 1 skein each in 202-122 Hazelnut (CA), 202-405 Turquoise Heather (CB), and 202-129 Cocoa (CC), or approximately 160 yd (146.5 m) in CA, 165 yd (151 m) in CB, and 65 yd (59.5 m) in CC in any medium weight yarn.
12 mm black safety eyes - 1 pair.
Supplies
US Size G-6/4 mm crochet hook, or size needed to obtain gauge.
US Size I-9/5.5 mm crochet hook, or size needed to obtain gauge.

Step One

Crochet Super Hero Doll – Super Santiago

Finished Size

  • Approximately 19” (48.5 cm) tall after assembly and stuffing.

Gauge

  • Through Rnd 11 = 4.25” (11 cm) in pattern for Hair with smaller hook. Exact gauge is not critical for this project. Stitches should be close together so fiber filling does not show through.

Pattern Notes

  • Ch 1 at beginning of rows and rounds does not count as a stitch.
  • When choosing colors, note that CA is the skin color, CB is the clothing and cape color, and CC is the hair color.

Step Two

Pattern Instructions

Torso (Worked flat in rows)

  • Starting at Neck, with smaller hook and CA, ch 10.
  • Row 1: Turn, skip 1 ch, sc in next 9 ch. (9 sts)
  • Row 2: Turn, ch 1, sc in first st and in each st across.
  • Row 3: Rep Row 2, changing to CB in last yo of final sc. Fasten off CA.
  • Row 4: Turn, ch 1, 2 sc in first st, sc in each st across to last st, 2 sc in next st. (Increases by 2 sts)
  • Rows 5-9: Rep Row 2, 5 times, ending with 21 sts at the end of Row 9.
  • Rows 10-30: Rep Row 2, 21 times.
  • Row 31: Turn, ch 1, scBL in first st and in each st across.
  • Rows 32-52: Rep Row 2, 21 times.
  • Row 53: Turn, ch 1, invdec, sc to last 2 sts, invdec. (Decreases by 2 sts)
  • Rows 54-58: Rep Row 53, 5 times, changing to CA in last yo of final sc of Row 58 and ending with 9 sts at the end of Row 58. Fasten off CB.
  • Rows 59-61: Rep Row 2, 3 times. Fasten off CA.
  • Fold Torso at Row 31. With yarn needle, weave in ends on wrong side (inside) of Torso.

Step Three

Head (Worked in the round in unjoined spirals)

  • Beginning at crown and using CA and smaller hook, start with magic adjustable ring (see Pattern Notes).
  • Rnd 1: Ch 1, 6 sc in ring, pull yarn tail tightly to close ring, pm in last st and move marker up each Round to mark last st. (6 sts)
  • Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st around. (12 sts)
  • Rnd 3: *2 sc in next st, sc in next st; rep from * around. (18 sts)
  • Rnd 4: *2 sc in next st, sc in next 2 sts; rep from * around. (24 sts)
  • Rnd 5: *2 sc in next st, sc in next 3 sts; rep from * around. (30 sts)
  • Rnd 6: *2 sc in next st, sc in next 4 sts; rep from * around. (36 sts)
  • Rnd 7: *2 sc in next st, sc in next 5 sts; rep from * around. (42 sts)

Step Four

  • Starting at upper thigh with CB and smaller hook, and starting with long yarn tail (approximately 12”/30.5 cm) for seaming, ch 17.
  • Set Up Row: Turn, skip 1 ch, sc in next 16 sts, pm in last st and move marker up each Round to mark last st. (16 sts)
  • Rnd 1: Sc in each st around.
  • Rnds 2-10: Rep Rnd 1, 9 times.
  • Rnd 11: Rep Rnd 1, changing to CA in last yo of final sc. Fasten off CB.
  • Rnds 12-42: Rep Rnd 1, 30 times. Fasten off CA.
  • With yarn needle, weave in yarn tail from final Rnd on inside of leg.

Step Five

Shoes (Worked in the round in unjoined spirals) – Make 2

  • Starting at bottom of shoe with CB and smaller hook, rep as for Head through Rnd 3.
  • Rnd 4: *2 sc in next st, sc in next 8 sts; rep from * around. (20 sts)
  • Rnd 5: Sc in each st around.
  • Rnds 6-8: Rep Rnd 5, 3 times.
  • Rnd 9: *Invdec, sc in next 3 sts; rep from * around. (16 sts)
  • Rnd 10: Rep Rnd 5 once.
  • Fasten off CB with a long yarn tail (approximately 12”/30.5 cm) for seaming. With yarn needle, weave in yarn tail from magic ring on inside of Shoe.

Step Six

Arms – Make 2

  • Starting at upper arm with CB and smaller hook, and starting with long yarn tail (approximately 12”/30.5 cm) for seaming, ch 13.
  • Set Up Row: Turn, skip 1 ch, sc in next 12 sts, pm in last st and move marker up each Round to mark last st. (12 sts)
  • Rnd 1: Sc in each st around.
  • Rnds 2-6: Rep Rnd 1, 5 times.
  • Rnd 7: Rep Rnd 1, changing to CA in last yo of final sc. Fasten off CB. Begin working flat in Rows.
  • Row 8: Turn, ch 1, sc in first st and in next 11 sts.
  • Rows 9-24: Rep Row 8, 16 times.
  • Row 25: Turn, ch 1, invdec, sc to last 2 sts, invdec. (Decreases by 2 sts)
  • Rows 26-27: Rep Row 25, twice, ending with 6 sts at the end of Row 27. Fasten off CA with long yarn tail (approximately 12”/30.5 cm) for seaming.

Step Seven

Hair (Worked in the round in unjoined spirals)

  • Beginning at crown and using CC and smaller hook, rep as for Head through Rnd 10.
  • Rnd 11: *2 sc in next st, sc in next 9 sts; rep from * around. (66 sts)
  • Rnd 12: Sc in next st, [ch 3, sc in next 2 sts] 6 times, sl st in next st, skip next 58 sts. Fasten off CC with long yarn tail (approximately 18”/46 cm) for seaming.
  • With yarn needle, weave in yarn tail from magic ring on inside of Hair.

Step Eight

Cape

  • With larger hook at CB and starting at Collar, ch 10.
  • Row 1: Turn, skip 1 ch, sc in next 9 ch. (9 sts)
  • Row 2: Turn, ch 1, sc in first 9 sts.
  • Row 3: Turn, ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc in same st, dc in each st across to last st, 2 dc in last st. (Increases by 2 sts)
  • Rows 4-12: Rep Row 3, 9 times, ending with 29 sts at the end of Row 12.
  • Border Rnd: Turn, ch 1, sc in first st and in each st across Row 12, ch 2, turn to work along angled edge, 2 sc in side of next 10 rows, sc in side of next 2 rows, ch 1, turn to work along foundation chain, sc in first st, [ch 1, skip 1 st, sc in next st] 4 times, ch 2, turn to work along angled edge, sc in side of next 2 rows, 2 sc in side of next 10 rows, ch 2, join with sl st to first sc.
  • Fasten off CB. With yarn needle, weave in ends.

Cape Tie

  • With larger hook and CB, ch 70. Fasten off CB. With yarn needle, weave in ends.

Mask (Worked flat in rows)

  • With smaller hook and CB, ch 61.
  • Row 1: Turn, skip 1 ch, sc in next 60 ch. (60 sts)
  • Row 2: Turn, ch 1, sc in first st and in each st across.
  • Row 3: Rep Row 1 once.
  • Fasten off CB with long yarn tail (approximately 18”/46 cm) for seaming. With yarn needle, weave in yarn tail from starting chain.

Step Nine

Assembly and Finishing

  • Start by assembling the body.
  • Thread yarn needle with CB from top of first Leg and seam Set Up Row closed. On folded Torso Row 31, skip 2 sts, seam through both layers of Leg and join to back loops of next 8 sts on Torso. With yarn needle, weave in yarn tail from top of first Leg into inside of Torso. Repeat for second Leg, skipping 1 st between Legs on Row 31 of Torso and joining second Leg across back loops of next 8 sts. Skip last 2 sts. With yarn needle, weave in yarn tail from top of second Leg into inside of Torso.
  • Thread yarn needle with CA from end of first Arm. With yarn needle, begin to seam Arm closed with whipstitch (see Pattern Notes). Stuff Arm as you work, continuing to seam to edge of CA section of Arm. With yarn needle, weave in yarn tail on inside of Arm. Repeat for second Arm.

  • Stuff the top of each Arm, both Legs, and both Shoes.

  • Thread yarn needle with a strand of CB approximately 12”/30.5 cm long. Seam side of Torso with whipstitch (see Pattern Notes). With yarn needle, weave in yarn tail on inside of Torso. Thread yarn needle with a strand of CA approximately 12”/30.5 cm long. Seam neck with whipstitch. Stuff Torso firmly. Repeat process of seaming in both colors on other side of Torso, adding more stuffing as necessary.
  • Thread yarn needle with CB from first Shoe. Seam Shoe to bottom of Leg with whipstitch (see Pattern Notes), adding stuffing as you work. With yarn needle, weave in yarn tail on inside of Shoe. Repeat for second Shoe.
  • Thread yarn needle with CB from first Arm and seam top of Set Up Row closed. Seam through both layers of Arm and join to Torso at approximately Row 4. With yarn needle, weave in yarn tail from top of first Arm inside of Torso. Repeat for second Arm.
  • Continue by decorating the face. Fold Mask across lengthwise, and position center of Mask above puff stitch Nose on Head. Position safety eyes over Mask centered around Nose. When satisfied with positions, secure by attaching washers firmly on inside of Head.
  • Stuff Head firmly.

  • Position Hair atop Head so that the curls formed by Round 12 are at front of face. Thread yarn needle with long yarn tail in CC. Join Hair to Head using whipstitch seam (see Pattern Notes), leaving stitches slightly loose as shown in picture below to create hairline.

  • Do not attach curls. Instead, continue to seam around Round 11 as shown in the picture below. Weave in yarn tails on inside of Head.

  • Wrap Mask around stuffed Head, overlapping at back. Thread yarn needle with CB. Sew Mask ends together, and join seamed ends to Head with whipstitch seam (see Pattern Notes). Optional: Join rest of Mask to Head with whipstitch seam. With yarn needle, weave in yarn tails on inside of Head.

  • Attach Head to Body. Thread yarn tail with CB from Head and join with whipstitch (see Pattern Notes).

  • Assemble Cape as follows. Thread Cape Tie in yarn needle. Weave Cape Tie through chain-spaces on Border Round of Cape.
  • Position collar of Cape at back of neck. Tie a bow to attach Cape as show below.
