Boxy Owl Crochet Pattern

Categories: Kid Friendly, Doll, Crochet

The Boxy Owl crochet pattern is the companion to the Boxy Fox amigurumi. It is made with a rectangular base which gives it the boxy shape. The feet, and wings are crocheted into the body so they are very securely attached. The eyes and beak are crocheted separately and then appliqued onto the body. Weighted stuffing beads sewn in a little fabric pouch and inserted in the bottom help the owl sit up.

Do not cut yarn

  • owl insert

Step Four

Make weighted insert:

Fold fabric rectangle in half so that it is 5″ x 3 1/2″

Sew two sides, turn right side out.

Fill with weighted stuffing beads, sew open end closed.

  • inside owl
  • stuffed owl

Step Five

Stuff Owl:

Put weighted insert in the bottom of the owl, then fill with Poly-Fil.

  • closing owl

Step Six

Close top of owl:

Because the stitches spiral as you crochet before you crochet the top of the owl closed you will need to slip stitch to the center of one side. To do this pinch the top of your owl closed so that it looks the way you want it to look, slip stitch back to the pinched fold. I had to go back 5 or 6 stitches I think.

Now that you yarn is at one side of your owl you will be crocheting through both layers at the same time. This will close the top of your owl. You may want to add more stuffing as you go.

ch 2, dc in first stitch (through both layers), hdc in next stitch, sc in 17 stitches, hdc in next, dc in last stitch

cut yarn, finish off and weave in end

  • owl eyes
  • button eyes

Step Seven

To make the eyes:

with brown yarn make 2

begin with a magic ring

8 sc in mr, join to first sc, cut yarn

with white yarn 2 sc in each stitch, join to first stitch, cut yarn long for sewing

  • owl beak

Step Eight

To make beak:

with orange yarn

ch 5, starting in third ch from hook, dc 3 tog, ch 1 to anchor, cut yarn long for sewing

  • crocheted owl

Step Nine

Sew on eyes and beak:

Place beak in the center just above the tan belly section and sew on

Place eyes just above the beak and close together, attaching buttons in the center (safety eyes can be used but will need to be attached before stuffing and closing the top)

  • boxy fox and owl

Step Ten

Enjoy your new amigurumi owl and make a Boxy Fox to match.
