Bouncy Bouclé Crochet Bunny

This patchwork bunny is made with a plush, bouclé yarn that is soft to the touch.

 

What you need to make this project

Materials
Fairfield Poly-Fil Crafter’s Choice Dry Polyester Packing Fiber Fill – 10 ounce bag.
Lion Brand Baby Soft Bouclé yarn (3.5 oz/100 g/120 yds/109 m/100% polyester) – 1 skein each in 144 Lavender (CA), 150 Clouds (CB), and 173 Sprout (CC), or approximately 75 yd (68.5 m) in CA, 100 yd (91.5 m) in CB, and 120 yd (109 m) in CC in any bulky weight, bouclé yarn.
16 mm Round Comic Safety Eyes - 1 pair.
13 mm Pink Heart Craft Nose - 1 pair.
Supplies
• US Size F-5/3.75 mm crochet hook, or size needed to obtain gauge.
Yarn needle.
Locking stitch marker.

Step One

Bouncy Boucle Crochet Bunny, free pattern by Underground Crafter for Fairfield World | supplies

Finished Size

  • Approximately 15” (38 cm) tall from top of head to bottom of toes x 12” (30.5 cm) across arms when laid flat after stuffing.

Gauge

  • Through Rnd 7 in pattern for Head = 3.5” (9 cm) diameter. Exact gauge is not critical for this project but stitches should be small so that fiber filling doesn’t show.

Pattern Notes

  • Most pieces are worked in the round in continuous spirals without joining. Move stitch marker up as each round is completed to mark position of last stitch unless otherwise noted.
  • When choosing colors, note that CA is the Head and Tail color, CB is the Torso color, and CC is the Limbs and Ears color.

Step Two

Head

  • With CA, start with magic adjustable ring (see Pattern Notes).
  • Rnd 1: (RS) Ch 1, 8 sc in ring, pull yarn tightly to close ring, pm in last st. (8 sts)
  • Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st around. (16 sts)
  • Rnd 3: *2 sc in next st, sc in next st; rep from * around. (24 sts)
  • Rnd 4: *2 sc in next st, sc in next 2 sts; rep from * around. (32 sts)
  • Rnd 5: *2 sc in next st, sc in next 3 sts; rep from * around. (40 sts)
  • Rnd 6: *2 sc in next st, sc in next 4 sts; rep from * around. (48 sts)
  • Rnd 7: *2 sc in next st, sc in next 5 sts; rep from * around. (56 sts)
  • Rnd 8: *2 sc in next st, sc in next 6 sts; rep from * around, pm in last st to mark position, do not move up next Rnd. (64 sts)
  • Rnd 9: Sc in next st and each st around.
  • Rep Rnd 9 until Head measures approximately 2.5” (6.5 cm) from marker, pm in last st, continue to move up each Rnd.
  • Rnd 10: *Sc2tog, sc in next 6 sts; rep from * around. (56 sts)
  • Rnd 11: *Sc2tog, sc in next 5 sts; rep from * around. (48 sts)
  • Rnd 12: *Sc2tog, sc in next 4 sts; rep from * around. (40 sts)
  • Rnd 13: *Sc2tog, sc in next 3 sts; rep from * around. (32 sts)
  • Rnd 14: *Sc2tog, sc in next 2 sts; rep from * around. (24 sts)
  • Rnd 15: *Sc2tog, sc in next st; rep from * around. (16 sts)
  • Fasten off CA with long yarn tail (approximately 24”/61 cm) for seaming.

Step Three

Tail

  • With CA, start with magic adjustable ring (see Pattern Notes).
  • Rnd 1: (RS) Ch 1, 6 sc in ring, pull yarn tightly to close ring, pm in last st. (6 sts)
  • Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st around. (12 sts)
  • Rnd 3: *2 sc in next st, sc in next st; rep from * around, pm in last st to mark position, do not move up next Rnd. (18 sts)
  • Rnd 4: Sc in next st and each st around.
  • Rep Rnd 4 until Tail measures approximately 1.25” (3 cm) from marker.
  • Fasten off CA with long yarn tail (approximately 18”/45.5 cm) for seaming.

Step Four

Torso

  • With CB, ch 17.
  • Set Up Row: Turn, skip first ch, sc in next 16 ch, pm in last st, being careful not to twist, begin crocheting in the round. (16 sts)
  • Rep Rnds 3-9 as for Head.
  • Rep Rnd 9 until Torso measures approximately 4” (10 cm) from marker, pm in last st, continue to move up each Rnd.
  • Rep Rnds 10-15 as for Head.
  • Rnd 16: Sc2tog around. (8 sts)
  • Rnd 17: Rep Rnd 16. (4 sts)
  • Fasten off CB with long yarn tail (approximately 12”/30.5 cm) for seaming.
  • Thread yarn needle with CB yarn tail. Seam Rnd 17 closed using whipstitch (see Pattern Notes).

Step Five

Limbs – Make 4

  • With CC, work through Rnd 3 as for Head, pm in last st to mark position, do not move up next Rnd. (32 sts)
  • Rnd 4: Sc in next st and each st around.
  • Rep Rnd 4 until Limbs measures approximately 3” (7.5 cm) from marker, pm in last st, continue to move up each Rnd.
  • Fasten off CC with long yarn tail (approximately 24”/61 cm) for seaming.

Step Six

Ears – Make 2

  • With CC and starting with long yarn tail (approximately 18”/45.5 cm) for seaming, ch 5.
  • Row 1: Turn, skip first ch, sc in next 4 ch. (4 sts)
  • Row 2: Turn, ch 1, sc in first st and each st across. (4 sts)
  • Row 3: Turn, ch 1, 2 sc in first st, sc across to last st, 2 sc in last st. (6 sts)
  • Row 4: Rep Row 2.
  • Row 5: Rep Row 3. (8 sts)
  • Rows 6-14: Rep Row 2, 9 times.
  • Row 15: Turn, ch 1, sc2tog in first 2 sts, sc to last 2 sts, sc2tog in last 2 sts. (6 sts)
  • Row 16: Rep Row 2.
  • Row 17: Rep Row 15. (4 sts)
  • Row 18: Rep Row 2.
  • Row 19: Turn, ch 1, sc2tog twice. (2 sts)
  • Row 20: Rep Row 2.
  • Row 21: Turn, ch 1, sc2tog, fasten off CC. (1 st)

Step Seven

Assembly and Finishing

  • Use pictures as a guide for placement.
  • Position first safety eye in Head until you like placement. Snap washer into place to secure. Repeat for second safety eye.
  • Position nose in Head until you like placement. Snap washer into place to secure.
  • Stuff Head firmly. With long yarn tail from start of first Ear threaded into yarn needle, sew Ear to top of Head. Repeat for second Ear.

  • Stuff Torso firmly. With long yarn tail from end of Tail threaded into yarn needle, sew Tail to back of Torso.

  • With long yarn tail from end of first Limb threaded into yarn needle, whipstitch (see Pattern Notes) Limb opening closed.

  • Position first Limb as leg at the bottom front of Torso. Sew Limb to front of Torso. Repeat for second Limb.

  • Position third Limb as arm towards the top of Torso. Sew Limb to front of Torso. Repeat for fourth Limb.

  • Position Head on Torso. Thread yarn needle with long yarn tail from Head. Sew Head into position on Torso.
