Use a beginner crochet pattern and Fairfield’s Poly-fil® Fiber to make this adorable Amigurmi Japanese Maiden doll.

What you need to make this project

Materials
One bag of Poly-fil Fiberfill
Supplies
One skein each of medium worsted-weight wool in white, black and fuchsia
Crochet hook size H8/5.00mm
Split ring stitch marker
Fabric Glue (suggest Aleene’s® Fabric Fusion™)
Two 6mm black safety eyes
2 small yellow beads
Embroidery needle
Ribbon (for obi belt)
Red fabric scrap (for lips)
Black embroidery floss

Step One

Make Hair
Black yarn, chain 2.
Rnd 1: 8 sc in second chain from hook. Mark first st for beg of rnd; move marker up each rnd.
Rnd 2: Work 2 sc in each sc around (16)
Rnd 3: *Sc in next 1sc, work 2 sc in the next sc; repeat from * (24 sc)
Rnd 4: *Sc in next 2sc, work 2 sc in the next sc; repeat from * (32 sc)
Rnd 5: Sl st into 8s, sc in next 3sc, work 2 sc in the next sc; repeat from * (30 sc)
Rnd 6-10: Sc in each sc
Rnd 11: *Sc in next 3sc, dec 1 in the next sc; repeat from * (24 sc)
Rnd 12: Sc in each sc
Rnd 13: *Sc in next 2sc, dec 1 in the next sc; repeat from * (18 sc)
Rnd 14: Sc in each sc
Rnd 15: 3sc on both corners and sc on the three sides framing the face.
Fasten off.

Step Two

Make 2 Hair Buns
Black yarn, chain 2.
Rnd 1: 5 Sc in second chain from hook. Mark first st for beg of rnd; move marker up each rnd.
Rnd 2: Work 2 sc in each sc around (10 sc)
Rnd 3-4: Sc in each sc
Stuff, fasten off, and leave a tail for sewing

Step Three

Make Head
White yarn, chain 2.
Rnd 1: 7 Sc in second chain from hook. Mark first st for beg of rnd; move marker up each rnd.
Rnd 2: Work 2 sc in each sc around (14 sc)
Rnd 3: *Sc in next 1sc, work 2 sc in the next sc; repeat from * (21 sc)
Rnd 4: *Sc in next 2sc, work 2 sc in the next sc; repeat from * (28 sc)
Rnd 5: *Sc in next 3sc, work 2 sc in the next sc; repeat from * (35 sc)
Rnd 6-10: Sc in each sc
Rnd 11: *Sc in next 3sc, dec 1 in the next sc; repeat from * (28 sc)
Rnd 12: Sc in each sc
Insert safety eyes and sew eyelashes using black embroidery floss.
Rnd 13: *SC in next 2sc, dec 1 in the next sc; repeat from * (21 sc)
Stuff, put in position the safety eyes and close the security.
Rnd 19: *Sc in next sc, dec 1 in the next sc; repeat from * (14 sc)
Rnd 20: Dec 1 in each sc round (7 sc)
Stuff, fasten off, and leave a tail for sewing

Step Four

Make Body
Fuschia yarn, chain 2.
Rnd 1: 7 sc in second chain from hook. Mark first st for beg of rnd; move marker up each rnd.
Rnd 2: Work 2 sc in each sc around (14 sc)
Rnd 3: *Sc in next 1st, work 2 sc in the next sc; repeat from* (21 sc)
Rnd 4: *Sc in next 2st, work 2 sc in the next sc; repeat from* (28 sc)
Rnd 5-9: Sc in each sc
Rnd 10: *Sc in next 2sc, dec 1 in the next sc; repeat from* (21 sc)
Rnd 11-15: Sc in each sc
Rnd 16: *Sc in next sc dec 1 in the next sc; repeat from* (14 sc)
Rnd 17: Sc in each sc
Stuff.
Rnd 18: Dec 1 in each sc round
Fasten off and leave tail for sewing to the head.

Rnd 3-14: Sc in each sc
Fasten off.

Step Five

Make 2 Legs
Black yarn, chain 2

Rnd 1: 8 sc in second chain from hook Mark first st for beg of rnd; move marker up each rnd.
Rnd 2-4: Sc in each sc
Stuff, fasten off, and leave a tail for sewing.

Step Six

Make 2 Arms
White yarn, chain 2.
Rnd 1: 4 sc in second chain from hook. Mark first st for beg of rnd; move marker up each rnd.
Rnd 2: Work 2 sc in each sc around (8 sc)
Rnd 3-4: Sc in each sc
Change color to Fuchsia “Quilt Project Name”
Rnd 5-6: Sc in each sc
Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing to the body

Turn arm around so that the closed end is facing away from you.
Rnd 1: With the Fuchsia yarn sc 9 times into the spaces between the two colors. Mark first st for beg of rnd; move marker up each rnd.
Rnd 2-3: Sc in each sc
Rnd 4: 2 sc in first sc and sc in each remaining sc
Fasten off and tuck extra yarn ends in and stuff.

Step Seven

Finishing
Attach parts by sewing
1. Buns to hair—see photo for reference
2. Head to body
3. Arms and legs to body

Gluing on details
1. Cut mouth from a piece of scrap red fabric and glue on
2. Glue on hair, bows, beads and ribbon for obi belt
