Bamboo Quilt Batts

My quilt guild received a group of bamboo batts to use as prizes for our quilt show this April. I was lucky enough to receive one of the bamboo batts as a prize. I just wanted to say THANK YOU! I've been a quilter for many years and always used cotton batts for my best quilts. The new bamboo batt has changed my mind. It is so wonderful to the touch, easy to work with, clings very well to fabrics, stitches like a dream and washes and dries beautifully !! It's also amazing how many projects I've been able to get out of the 60 x 60 batt! I've made a baby quilt, pot holders, coasters and a small stained glass wall hanging. I've still got a few bits left!!

Please let me know how you washed the bamboo batting to pre-shrink. I cannot find the directions anywhere!

No, I didn't wash the batt before I used it. I washed it after I was done and it did beautifully.

I did not pre-wash the batt. When I had finished the quilting and had the binding stitched in place, I washed the completed project. I washed the finished quilt in cold water with QuiltCare Liquid Wash. The QuiltCare did a wonderful job of removing all the lines I'd marked. I dried the quilt in the dryer on low setting.

I just tried the bamboo for the first time and it's my new favorite! I didn't prewash it - just used it straight from the package. Fabulous!

Nice to hear from someone who has used this batting...it sounds good.
How does it work for hand-quilting?

I haven't tried it yet myself, but a friend of mine tried it and liked it.

My local Hancock's Fabric Store has Fusi-Boo in stock!!! (Baytown is not big enough to have a quiltstore, but we do have a Hancocks!) I love this batting!!! It is so easy to sew. It does not dull your needles - you can hand quilt without a problem.
I don't wash it before I use it and I have not found shrinkage to be a problem. Remember that this is a cotton blend. It may shrink, but I bet it is only 1 to 2 percent. This batting feels amazing. Not only is it great for quilts, it is also great for vests. It is lightweight, keeps you warm in winter, cool in summer, and has a natural drape.
If you haven't tried Fusi-Boo yet, I highly recommend it!
